Nestled on a rocky headland, amid the rugged mountains, the new Atana Musandam built in 2013, regally surveys the turquoise waters of the waterfront. The property is an hospitality attempt at creating a unique experience for the guest, that showcases traditional Omani Culture in a rustic contemporary setting.

Geographic Location

The Sultanate of Oman possesses the strategic tip called the Musandam Peninsula, bordering the United Arab Emirates, at the Strait of Hormuz, the meeting point of the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. This place is also touted to be the “Norway of Arabia” with dramatic fjords and picturesque rocky inlets all bathed in the famous alluring aquamarine-blue waters. Khasab is the capital of this smallest and northernmost governorate of Oman, christened Musandam.
The beautiful water-front property of Atana Musandam is a tranquil reflection of the very spirit of Oman, despite its distance from the mainland. It is efficiently managed by Dhiaffa, a subsidiary of Oman Tourism Development Company (OMRAN) and is located just a short 10 minutes drive from the Khasab Airport and Seaport, 160 kms from Dubai and a meagre 40 kms from the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah. It is just 55 minutes flying time or 5 hours by ferry from the capital city of Muscat.

The ‘Atana’ Philosophy

“Come to us” is what “Atana” means in Arabic, that is the exact sentiment this new home-grown hotel brand extols. Hospitality is a vital part of the Omani heritage, which has been inherited from generations. When a guest visits an Omani home, the host feels very honored and extremely happy. That is what the ‘Brand Atana’ is striving to consciously embody and generously share with its honored guests.
Once you arrive, at an Atana property they will help you experience the multiple shades of Oman as their honored guest, in any one of their current portfolio of four-star destination resorts. They are a proud local brand and in the true spirit of Omani hospitality, very excited to share their local knowledge with their visitors.
Modern Oman is a prosperous Sultanate, which has a lot to offer by way of unique experiences, to all who care to visit it shores. It is a beautiful country endowed with a rich culture, glorious history, majestic landscapes and diverse traditions. Atana, attempts to showcase the following aspects of the rich Omani culture, to its guests:

  • Flavorful local cuisine, featuring fresh seafood and sweet honeyed desserts
  • Amazing natural wonders, including desert dunes, craggy mountains, serene beaches
  • Visits to picturesque towns, forts and castles, dating as far back as the 13th century
  • The year-round sunny weather
  • A thriving art and music community

Atana destination resorts give guests the opportunity to stay at some of the most beautiful spots in the region, and captivate the visitor’s senses and memory with the wonders of Omani art, culinary offerings, natural beauty, warm friendly nature, and more.
The Atana motto has been condensed very aptly in their byline which says if one genuinely wants to experience “Culture.Heritage.Hospitality - Stay the Atana way”. So what they seem to have declared loud and clear is “Come to us… We’ll make sure your stay in Oman surpass your expectations.”
The town of Khasab has two Atana properties to choose from. Besides Atana Musandam there is the old Golden Tulip Hotel which was acquired by OMRAN and renamed as Atana Khasab. The newer, bigger and more luxurious of the two is definitely Atana Musandam.

A Memorable Stay

The stay at Atana Musandam was memorable. The grand size of the room, finished with a unique timber ceiling and rough brown mud-washed walls, overwhelms the guest when those studded, imposing, black entry-door swings open.
The general design reinterpretation, is a serious attempt at creating a modern architectural rendition of the classic Omani Fort concept. To bring authenticity to the rural-feel, there is even a small re-creation of a typical village well, in the outdoor seating area of the restaurant. The structure is created in a harmonious blend of the brown and black theme.
One sees extensive usage of the brown desert bronze marble quarried in nearby Suhar, married with black African teak wood used for the woodwork and pergolas that embellish the exteriors and poolside.
All these elements were thoughtfully put together in the wonderful design of the property, and that must have surely been the reason it was declared the proud and deserving winner of the ‘Hospitality Project Of The Year 2015” Award given by Construction Week Middle East. Atana Musandam, is indeed a promising start, made by a great new Omani hospitality brand in the making.
